Uma has been working with Vishakha since 2017, focusing on strengthening girls’ leadership and building their collective voice. Her work centres around helping adolescent girls identify the challenges they face, encouraging them to take initiative, and supporting them in standing up against everyday forms of discrimination and silencing. She holds a master's degree in social work.
Her approach is rooted in patience, consistency, and moral support, with a focus on building friendly, trusting environment over time. Whether through individual conversations or group processes, she works steadily to create spaces where girls can reflect, speak, and act with confidence.
She sees learning as a continuous process, not only for the girls she works with but for herself as well. Travelling, interacting with different people, and understanding varied perspectives keep her curiosity alive and deepen her engagement with the work. For Uma, collective growth and slow, sustained change matter more than quick fixes. Her presence offers both strength and softness as someone who stands with the girls in all pathways.
