Self and Collective Care

At Vishakha, self-care and collective care are not add-ons — they are central to sustaining our work on gender justice and violence prevention. Over the years, through interventions such as the Anandi Healing Centre, we recognised that legal and social relief alone cannot restore vitality; emotional, relational, and embodied wellbeing must also be addressed. Individual experiences and community realities are deeply interconnected, and healing becomes possible when both are held with dignity and care.

Rooted in empathy, feminist ethics, and shared responsibility, our approach nurtures everyday practices that sustain those who carry the work forward. We intentionally create structures that embed care within organisational life and community spaces.

We offer & ensure :

We provide affordable, nutritious meals to ensure that our team is supported in their daily lives. This small act of everyday care nurtures wellbeing and reduces financial stress.

We prioritise mental and emotional wellbeing within our organisation and communities. For our team, we offer access to counselling support. Those who choose to seek external therapy are provided time and partial financial support to make this care accessible. At the community level, our Hamkadam Centre offers psychosocial support to individuals experiencing distress, helping them access safe spaces, guidance, and care pathways

We facilitate guided group spaces for grounding, sharing, and collective care. Through art, movement, and storytelling, participants explore healing and reconnect with themselves.

Vishakha ensures that its team is supported with social security and organisational policies that safeguard their wellbeing. This includes access to benefits and entitlements that strengthen safety, stability, and dignity, helping staff and their families plan for their future.

We bring together youth, elders, and community members to exchange stories, wisdom, and experiences. These dialogues create deeper understanding, belonging, and stronger social bonds.

Each year, we gather to pause, reflect, and renew our collective energy. The retreat creates space to restore, celebrate our journeys, and envision the way forward.
