Uma Shankar brings over two decades of experience in the social change sector, working at the intersections of gender, education, and social justice. He holds a Master’s in Theatre from Sparsh Himalaya University, a Master’s in Sociology from Monad University, Uttar Pradesh, and has completed a one-year Fellowship in Theatre of the Oppressed from Jana Sanskriti, Kolkata. He has collaborated extensively with feminist and rights-based organisations, using participatory methods to build awareness and deepen engagement on structural inequalities.

As a trained practitioner of Theatre of the Oppressed, Uma Shankar integrates performance, reflection, and dialogue to create transformative spaces. He has facilitated life skills and constitutional awareness trainings for more than 2,000 children and adolescents, focusing on holistic development, creative expression, and cultivating a sense of rights and responsibility.

Grounded in a deep understanding of the Constitution, child rights, and the lived experiences of marginalised communities, Uma Shankar is known for his ability to bring critical issues to life through theatre, storytelling, and collective reflection. His work is rooted in empathy, active listening, and a belief in the transformative power of community and creativity.
